The first act of Kevin James‘ True Memoirs of an International Assassin was actually kinda funny and somewhat original but it doesn’t last long. Very quickly we dive down into every action movie cliché and it’s not long until you lose respect for Sam Larson (Kevin James) and are frustrated at how pathetic he is. The audience wants to cheer on the protagonist but, I guess to avoid further cliché, this movie has done everything possible to make Kevin James’ character weak and boring. The only shining light in this film was Kim Coates’ performance as President Cueto. It had overtones of Richard Lewis’ hilarious portrayal of Prince John in Robin Hood: Men In Tights, but unfortunately he wasn’t enough to save this film from being a disappointment.
