Lion is astounding and it is easy to forget that it is based on a true story. A five-year old boy, Saroo (Sunny Pawar), becomes lost in the streets of Kolkata, India, and finds himself in many challenging situations before landing himself in an orphanage. An Australian couple adopts Saroo, however he never forgets his home.

25 years later we agonise with Saroo (Dev Patel) as he struggles through his memories and determination to find his family. Dev Patel is incredibly versatile and I have loved watching his acting evolve from his frivolous character in Skins, to the emotional performance he has given us in Lion. This movie will put at your heartstrings, and if you are one to get teary when things get emotional this one definitely won’t leave you with a dry eye.

Spoiler alert: to hear Saroo Brierley’s real-life story, watch Studio 10’s interview with him here.
