Having been an avid Harry Potter fan since the beginning, I was pretty excited for another story set in the same wizarding world. I wasn’t expecting it to be nearly as great, nor was I expecting it to be about wizards and magical fight scenes. I did however expect another brilliant story, great characters and some interesting magical creatures. Unfortunately, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them fell just a little flat for me.

Set in New York seventy years before Harry Potter, we meet Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his beloved beasts. Although the scenery was a nice change, I thought this film started off disappointingly slow. The film did get better as time went on and the characters grew on me, especially the cheeky little ‘niffler’ and Newt’s awkward demeanour, however I think the film just lacks that magical fantasy that I hoped for. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was still a relatively enjoyable film overall and I think it has been left open for a fantastic sequel.
